Since my freshman year of college, I started to think about my future careers. Though it took not a short time to figure it out, I have decided on accountancy, since I have such a strong interest on it. During my former study experience, I passed the most professional English language exam called TEM8 and TEM4 in China. Currently I am studying in the pathway program for background knowledge of accounting, and I am sure pursuing a master’s degree in Accounting in George Mason University will be one of the most important steps in my career development.
Majored in English in my college study, I have developed strong skills in this language; my proficiency in English Speaking, listening, reading, and writing will help me study in an American university with no difficulties. I chose to take some business courses at school, such as Business English, Business Accounting, and Business Law-An Introduction. That is the time since when I began to have a real idea about the nature of business, and its financial functions. In order to deepen my understanding of this field, a few classmates and I started KAB (Knows about Business), a work pioneering club. Being the chairman, I have run several projects, such as a bubble tea shop, a thrift shop, and an on campus advertising agency. I also attended the Student Union, and was honored to be elected as the president of Entertainment Department in my college. I organized and leaded many major events, such as CNU Campus Top Ten Singers Competition, Exhibition of Red May, Community Cultural Festival and the New Year’s Gala. There were all kinds of troubles, communication barriers, coordinating difficulties, in the process of preparing and executing those events, however, every time I figured out the way to solve the problem, though it was not an easy task. Moreover, with my friendly, open-minded, and easy-going personality, I am always eager to make new friends, which will make me to be involved in the school life smoothly.
I chose to study accounting in master degree in George Mason because here is a really good school with a open and strict academy environment. In this half year studying in Pathway, I started to take some basic accounting classes. It feels difficult to some extent in the beginning period of studying, I tried different ways to integrated into the new environment and improve my knowledge background.
I found that accountancy was so fascinating, that I must make it the goal of my career life. After finishing my study in Accounting, my plan for the first step of my career path is to get an entry level position in a public accounting service, or financial accounting section in a private corporate. While gaining experiences, I would be getting ready for the CPA exam. I would see myself as a senior manager in ten years, and my longer term career goal would start from there. Among the different fields in accountancy, my interest resides more on financial accounting, over the other subjects, such as taxation and managerial accounting. I would also like to explore the use of information technology in accounting.
